[mac]My ping is 500-1000 when i start drakensang

Hi everyone im facing a weird issue with DrakensangOnline. Maybe the title is confusing at first but let me explain :

So im using a mac, i start to ping any server (example google) i get 20-40ping and isn't going higher. If i download or check videos or play any other game the ping stays at max 50. BUT when i open the DSO client the ping jumps up to 300-9999... and yes the game is unplayable. What is happening here why i can play and do anything else without problems but drakensang is killing my net ping... this is going already for a week i already talked to the net provider everything is fine and i agree because i got high ping only after i start dso... if i close the client / game the ping is back to 20-40... im playing a lot of other games online on pc on mac on ps4 no issue only with this game... is this some bug or server issue or something to do with firewall ? any idea ? Thank you

 

I can only tell you that I use iMac and my ping is always nice and steady around 47-60 and it has been for the past year and unless I start to run many other apps in the background it always stay the same.

I have had the same problem with pc but not to extremes of 500-1000. My ms should be about 65-90 and I am getting ms especially late day my time of 150-600.

That looked like the ping was bad each time the image switched. Then once it finished loading, it would revert to your regular ping. Does it continue to do that when you have actually logged into the game?

I normally play in a browser, and I know that isn't an option on a Mac (for the most part), but it seems that there are two applications running when in the game via the thinclient: the play window, and the login window. I wonder if that login window is continuing to "load" the scrolling images?

 

A traceroute to the DSO server you play on will tell you more regarding where the bottle-neck is. My suspicion is that it is likely to be CDN or Prolexic (anti-DDoS) related.

It would also be a good idea for you to scan for viruses and malware, and to check for router firmware updates.

What is your in-game latency meter like? Does it also spike - especially when changing maps? Does it stay consistently low/high?

Are you connected to your router via a cable or via WiFi? If WiFi, have you checked that it is properly secured so that no-one is sapping off your connection?

 

this game takes a lot of DATA ..each time my son use youtube my already tegan(australia) 220ms goes quickly high to 600ms to 800ms
im using cable from my modem..my son is wireless...my other game using gateway connection(one server worldwide) never laaag... [EDIT] they should be their priorty is to solve the laag connection before they think develop this dying game becaue of the laag

After i start the game this small client closes and only the fullscreen game is runnning. no background task

The servers are sometimes bad after updates but thats fine if you get 100-300 ping thats mostly because of your internet connection is slow or the server is in high use.

Hi. I dont have any viruses or anything like this. I had this issue 1 month ago for 3 days but then it just got back to normal...

My ingame latency is the same what you see in this video.


It jumps down to 30-40 and then to around 1000...

Im using wifi conncetion cant test it on LAN i have only usb-c connectors but like i said i had never this issue and ofc my router Airport Base has the latest firmware.

Today i tested this in my office and there kills the internet too... i mean if the game runs nobody can use the internet not only my connection gets bad. Somehow the client/game is eating the internet connection. Im out of ideas.

 

problem is not in connection proplem is in baaaaad optimizations of this game and hardly workf of BP to fix something in "correct way"

 

every online game has issues but i don't blame them because i love every minute of play

 

What's the session limit per second of network on your router or firewall?

 

no idea i can't see anything like that in the router settings

I found the solution / bug

On mac when you open the game down on the dock 1 icon will appera called "drakensangonline". This is for the client which allows you to login but after login you get another icon called "dso_online_client" this is the actual game window. I noticed that the "drakensangonline" icon/client window is hidden but not closed so i closed that manually and guess what my ping is back to normal. It's weird because this 2 icon (client and game) was always runnig and never had issue so i guess there is a programming code fail in the client. Please DSO Dev Team check it bet someone else is having this issue too or maybe the best solution would be that if the game is running close the loginscreen background task...


Huge thanks for Dragonnns who noticed that the ping is jumping when the images slide so it was clear that the client was the problem here
