Hello, I've been playing for about a week. Problem is, every time I click on my desktop icon, it keeps reinstalling the game(re downloading content 945mb)

Please help! I can't keep playing this way....

    Running Windows 10
I deleted the DSoClient file in the temps and redownloaded to see if it works, but it didn't.
There doesn't seem to be a .exe file for this game! Only this ThinClient.application file.( that keeps redownloading the game!)

    Reinstalling or re-downloading?
    1. If the client installs every time you try to play ... you must run and install the .exe "as administrator"
    2. If the files always are re-downloading ... then something is deleting them. And because you said you deleted the files in the DSOClient folder ... that will make the client download the files again.

To rule out alot of problems delete the icon on the desktop.

To run the game click on all programs and there is a thin client. Windows 10 it will be in the D or the T section. If that resolves your problem you can make a shortcut to the Thinclient in your program files or the x86 version of the folder under drakensang. Just right click new shortcut. Also my windows 10 i drag it to the new app area... The dso cache does have the new version of the exe in it but that is in its own folder.

I tried completely uninstalling the game and files. I even updated Java incase.
I all ready tried making a shortcut via the file in x86 after deleting the desktop one. I can play the game yes. Everytime I click the client, window opens, you can put user name and pass. Below, it keeps reloading the 945mb files EVERYTIME I start the client!
There's no signs of drakensang.exe file anywhere. Only thinclient.app file. Why didn't they simply put a .exe file within the folder?

I'll keep trying stuff... But could use more suggestions.

    --MERGED--

I've all ready tried the "run admin" upon install and upon client start.
no go. still same problems. The deleted files that I did, was only one attempt of many other tries.
Everything is back to normal, but the problem remains.

There are two ways this happens.

First, you could have some sort of background cleaner, computer performance enhancer, virus control software, etc that thinks that the DSO Client folder is junk taking up space. Look for something like this and see if you can add an exception for the client folder.

Second possibility is visual. It shows "Downloading" but it is really just validating the files that are already downloaded. Once it is 100% loaded, it will stay loaded. Then when you have a new release, the new stuff will load and check the existing files against what you already have loaded. Unless you are troubleshooting a game crash that won't let you play the game, you never want to delete the client folder because that will force everything to reload.

Finally, you can avoid this all together by playing in FireFox or some other java enabled browser. Then it will only download files as you need them. Load times will increase when you change maps or encounter someone with items you've never seen before until all the commonly used files are cached in the Client folder, but you won't be wasting data on what you don't need. There is also a download link somewhere on the forums where @trakilaki provided the no preload version of the client from a while back (I'll let him find and link that for you). You just always need to click no every time you play so that you don't update the client by mistake.

So, after trying all of that... I uninstalled everything INCLUDING my favorite browser! ...and tried again:
---> The signature of dro_setup.exe is corrupt or invalid.

I'm telling you, what one has to go thru just to play this game is starting to outway the "want to play" really quickly!

Currently still no luck fixing this problem.
I'll be giving up after today if I can't fix this.

PS: It's not my anti-virus. I don't use one other then Malwarebytes which doesn't block the game. I also went out of the way and put an exception in the firewall for the game just incase... still no cure.

To answer The file validation... it's clearly reloading the content and not "checking the files" I can tell because everytime it does so it adds 945mb of extra space on my drive per load up! Which is really messed up if you think about it lol ! I click 7 times to play the game in a day, All of a sudden there's 7gb of extra data on my drive! ( makes no sence)

Games I play that run flawless: EDIT and a few more... So as you can see, I really shouldn't be having any issues installing this product.(yes I'm admin)

    :(

    You uninstalled your browser????

You don't have to install anything when playing in browser ... except Java plugin.
OK try this one https://board-en.drakensang.com/threads/dso-client-no-preloading.68924/ that is a older client version without preloading . Once you install it ... never update it when it is asking you to. Just click "No".

It is not about the game ... it is about "are we capable of managing our PCs or not".

    ... found a temp solution.
The Chrome browser does not support NPAPI plug-ins and therefore will not run all Java content. Was one of my main problems to begin with. But even after I had uninstalled Chrome and used IE with a fresh java install, the problem would persist.:(
So I mirrored a version of the game onto a new drive letter(F). Ironic given name! All pun aside, I then deleted the other install including temp files.
By some miracle, it's working!!!

Questions? o_O Don't ask me ROFL!!!
